I’m co-founder and partner at Lowercarbon Capital and a partner at Lowercase Capital, where I co-led early investments in companies including Uber and Blue Bottle Coffee, as well as advised countless technology and consumer product companies within our portfolio. In parallel, I’m an author and designer–my first book, “The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Wine Expert,” was a New York Times Bestseller and Amazon #1, and my second book, “The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Whiskey Know-It-All,” was also a bestseller and helped many folks discover their go-to whiskey.
As a board member for the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and Co-Chair of the museum’s Engagement and Experience Committee, I believe in the power of design to change the world—from climate solutions and justice, to diversity and inclusion. I’m also a founding member of the Design Vanguard, a community of the foremost creative leaders from the business, tech, and social sectors seeking to leverage their resources and influence to catapult design forward in service of creating a more just and beautiful world.
Earlier in my career, I was a highly-recognized advertising creative, helping brands like Audi, Intel, Barclays, HBO, Sprint, HP, E*TRADE, and even Napster speak to a worldwide audience with thought-provoking wit and insight. Some good luck came my way and I ended up with a distinguished collection of awards for my work that are now collecting dust in the attic.
As a designer, artist, and philanthropist, I am always seeking ways to use creativity, community, and investment to inspire change. I’m passionate about bolstering our democracy, promoting diversity in the venture capital community, championing the plight of women and girls around the world, providing access to clean water to the developing world, protecting and advocating for refugees, reforming our criminal justice system, and healing the planet.
After the 2016 election, my husband Chris and I helped fund and build a new wave of voter registration, mobilization, and candidate recruitment tools that had an outsized impact on the pivotal races of 2018 and 2020. I’ve been a longtime supporter of both President Biden and Vice President Harris, was on their 2020 campaign’s National Finance Committee and am a member of Climate Leaders for Biden. In the 2012 election, I served as an Obama/Biden National Finance Committee member, an invitee to the President’s roundtable discussion series, and as a Co-Chair of Tech for Obama/Biden.
As an all-American Foreign Service brat, I grew up in Mauritania, The Gambia, Swaziland, Japan, and India and went on to graduate cum laude from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service majoring in Humanities in International Affairs. When not at work helping to unf*ck the planet, you can find me traveling the world, designing, hiking, teaching yoga, playing pickleball, skiing, surfing, brushing up my Muay Thai skills, fly fishing, producing films and Broadway shows, painting, and raising three gutsy girls under ten in the mountains of Wyoming.
